Hopped Spraymalt
Hopped Spraymalt
Afternoon all. Quick question. I've currently got a Woodforde's Headcracker in the FV which is just about down to the required gravity for kegging/bottling. As you'll all probably know, Woodforde's kits require no sugar at the fermenting stage, only at priming.
I'd like to try and introduce a more hoppy taste to my brew, so have invested in some Light Hopped Spraymalt which I was going to use as priming sugar. My question is: bearing in mind the relatively small quantity of sugar required for priming, is it going to be worth my while using the hopped spraymalt for priming, or am I going to be better off using it in place of sugar in another brew which required sugar at the initial fermentation stage, e.g. a lager, or another variety of bitter?

Re: Hopped Spraymalt
I wouldn't have thought the measly 80g or so for priming would have any aromatic effect on the keg.
Much better to hang on to it for another brew and use as sugar source, sounds nice though! where did you purchase it?

Re: Hopped Spraymalt
I dont think the priming sugar has much effect over taste. If you wanted a more hoppy flavour you should have probably just dried hopped it. Id save it for your next brew an just crack some tate an lyle in there for fizz.

Re: Hopped Spraymalt
I'd be interested in your results with the Hopped Spray Malt
When you use it.

Re: Hopped Spraymalt
Thanks for the replies fellas, consensus of opinion suggests I should save it for a Pilsener or something like that. Here's where I got it in case you're interested.

Re: Hopped Spraymalt
Must admit I didn't think about adding hops at the beginning of the process. I only started thinking about it half way through, so using the hopped spraymalt was my best idea I could come up with. Any suggestion as regards which hops to use? I like very bitter beer as a rule....any further thoughts welcomed
Re: Hopped Spraymalt
I'd recommend one of the York Brewery kits where they provide a packet of hop pellets.
