Expected FG of Coopers Stout

Post by burgo » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:51 pm

Easy question to all you Coopers Stout experts.

I have a very sedately fermenting CS, unlike all the pics and vids I have seen on this site. It was made up with 1KG extra dark spraymalt and had a OG of 1040, what would you expect as a reasonable FG, I am still a bit nervous as the previous brew (brown ale) stuck at 1020.

Thanks

I am not sure exactly, when I did mine I had an OG of 1045 and an FG of 1015

Mine started at 1036 and went down to 1008. Using DSM and 1tsp yeast nutrient.

my first one with medium spray malt was og-1040 and went down to fg-1012
which i worked out as 1040 minus 1012 giving 28 then divided by 7.75 to give 3.61 %

my second batch which i kegged tonight with coopers dark liquid malt was og -1048 down to fg- 1020

which with the above calc works out the same abv 3.61%

strange indeady :?

Checked out the Coopers last night and it has reached 1.012 which is in the right ball park looking at some of your guys results, gave it a gentle agitation and put it back to bed again to see if I can tease a couple of additional points.

I didn't have the fermentation fireworks that people talk about with Coopers Stout, the FV lid did start to crease at one point tho  so I thought that it had not really done it's job.

Time to chill with this whole HB thing I guess #-o

Didn't you crack open the lid a little? Something you should have done if not using a fermentation lock

yes, I have an airlock, one of the two piece ones. Not impressed, first brew it was fired out of the lid, this time it didn't function properly an the lid creased. I have bought another, and different one.

I have watched your vid a couple of times before, got nothing like that myself although the airing cupboard was protected like we were expecting a nuclear blast in case it did
