Amount of sugar

Post by dazed » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:09 pm

Hi
Hope someone can help. I have a Milestones Black Pearl on the go, now ready for barrelling. The instructions say to use 80g of glucose to prime, but due to work, wife etc etc, I havn't had time to get any glucose. I want to get it barrelled and substitute sugar as my brew has already been fermenting for 2 weeks. First question. how much sugar should I use, and secondly, would using brown or demerara be an improvement over the ordinary white sugar?

Hi dazed, welcome to the forum. Regarding priming your barrel, 80g of good old Tate & Lyle will be fine, I always use it myself. Due to the small amount used, you will gain no advantage using brown or demerara.
