10 gallon Boiler Buckets no longer available
Re: 10 gallon Boiler Buckets no longer available
Thanks, I'll give that a go. I fitted the kettle elements yesterday, and gave it a quick test. I want to get another RCD before going for the full on boil test (safety first!). I'll then try adding some VWP.
Re: 10 gallon Boiler Buckets no longer available
Just ordered one of these as the H&G tub isn;t available still. Had success removing garlic smells with lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda so hopefully can do the same if this pongs a bit. Sourcing some kettles that come with a cord is proving harder than I had expected! Everything seems to be cordless nowadays. Have heard that Asda do them still but the website doesn't show their value range.thatscolder wrote:I've brought two of these and intend to clean them out this weekend. I use one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0351689052 certainly strong enough and the flat surfaces make it easy to fit elements etc. The garlic smell is fairly easy to get rid of.
Thanks

The ASDA value range isn't shown on their website, but you'll find them in store. The price varies, I paid roughly £4.50 each. You'll need to buy the kettle leads separately, I got them from Homebase for £3.99 each. Definitely go for two elements, as these bins are big and it takes ages to boil the water with only one element.Capper20 wrote:Just ordered one of these as the H&G tub isn;t available still. Use a 38mm (1.5 inch) hole saw to drill the holes for the elements, when you use the red washer from the kettles it makes a perfect seal. It's a very easy job.If you need any help just ask.
I also got a couple of RCD's, better safe than sorry!
Re: 10 gallon Boiler Buckets no longer available
Thanks a lot for the info, I'll get over there this week and pick a couple up. Sure thing on the breakers, I want to be able to drink the beer and not visit it as a ghost.
Cheers.
Cheers.

So long as you have a RCD/ELCB on your consumer unit, and most have nowadays, you don't need one on the sockets. It won't give you any further protection, and it is actually not recommended practise - there is no guarantee which will trip first, and this can lead to a bit of head scratching when a fault occurs.thatscolder wrote:I also got a couple of RCD's, better safe than sorry!
If you haven't got a RCD/ELCB on your consumer unit or old style fusebox, then go for it.

Not done too well, I went to the Asda at Farnborough and all they have is the cordless kettle. I've bought a Sainsbury's cordless one as the pins seem to be quite long, thought I could have a go at seeing if they line up to a kettle lead socket. If so I'll take it from there.
Cordless technology is great and all but what about the old fashioned folk who don't like change?

It's not cordless that's the issue it's if they've got concealed elements. Even budget kettles are slowly going that way so it may well soon be very difficult to find one with an exposed element. I've just bought a £5 budget kettle from Wilcos not because I actually need it now but as a spare for the future.Capper20 wrote:Not done too well, I went to the Asda at Farnborough and all they have is the cordless kettle. I've decided to use a 55lt blue garlic tub to boil mash & HLT liquor and save my gas for the boil...
I've had no success yet with VWP or Domestos to get rid of the smell tho... Might just try and do the boiling thing!
Will let you know.

Four heaped tablespoons of washing soda in two litres of hot tap water. Scrub with microfibre cloth or white (melamine) non-stick scourer.rick_huggins wrote:I've decided to use a 55lt blue garlic tub to boil mash & HLT liquor and save my gas for the boil...
