Brewferm Kriek

Post by jonewer » Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:35 pm

Hi all,

I know I only got my first kit on the go yesterday, But I'm already plaaning my next one :D

Figuring that it never hurts to get the wife onside, and that the only beer SWMBO drinks is kriek... well you can follow my logic quite easily.

Reading around, it seems that the Brewferm Kriek kits are a tad short in the cherry department and that some extra cherry concentrate may be needed. Can anyone confirm this? How are the kits? Also, because I dont want to pay 2x Post and Packaging, does anyone know a good online shop that sells kriek kits and cherry concentrate?

thanks.

It's ghastly!
I've brewed all of the brewferm kits, the kriek kits are nothing like actual kriek.
I would probably brew a light wheat beer and put the cherries in the secondary with it instead.

I did a Brewferm Kriek. When siphoning it into the keg, you get a bit of a gobful and it didn't taste of cherry at all. So I added a 500ml bottle of cherry concentrate (available from Holland & Barratt for a tenner - bit steep!). Only thing is, all that extra sugar produced way too much pressure and ended up forcing bright pink beer out of the keg tap onto our green back bedroom carpet. Mrs Vince was not amused!! I saved and bottled most of it and it's actually come out really nice, not that cherryish, but there's definite hints of cherry (and bizarrely a slight waft of cloves) and it's a really refreshing beer.

If I did it again, I'd bung the cherry concentrate in instead of part of the sugar for the initial fermentation and then prime with a bit more.
