Hello,
I have received a water quality report from severn trent I asked for a total alkilinity. I received Hardness ( total) as calcium mg/l minimum 34.000. average 68.250. maximum 110.000. Number of samples taken 8. Can anyone translate this for me.

Re: TOTAL HARDNESS
Not too clued up in all this stuff yet but by the looks of things they haven't really been much use as they haven't given you an exact figure. I got fed up relying on other people to give me my data so I bought one of these bad boys:

This vid will explain how to use it:

My advice is to buy one of these kits and find out for yourself. Then you can use this calculator: http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/water/water.html to guide you as to how much CRS, gypsum etc to use for your brew.
Hope this helps.
