This seems like a really stupid question, but after my last Coopers bitter came bursting out through the tap seal because the pressure release valve or valve rubber was sticking I though I'd make sure I checked everything before transferring the ale this time.
Can anyone tell me which seals / parts need to be coated with vaseline and how you do this with seals such as the pressure vale rubber if this is necessary?
Any other tips before priming are also welcome.
Cheers
King Keg - How to prepare before filling with ale?
Re: King Keg - How to prepare before filling with ale?
you need to do the threads for the cap and tap with vaseline to make a good seal, but don't use it on the valve rubbers as the vaseline weakens the rubber. I learned that one the hard way recently.

I always pre-test my kegs by filling with water first, it's pretty expensive testing them with 40 pints of beer.

Do you recommend vaseline on the O ring?dunc wrote:you need to do the threads for the cap and tap with vaseline to make a good seal

ooh err mrs
I take mine out, smear it in vaseline and then pop it back in, making sure it's well sealed.

Surely if you put Vaseline around the thread of the tap on a bottom tap barrel you would get loads of the stuff in your beer?

unless you blather it on so its splurting out everywhere I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue. Vaseline doesn't taint the beer anyway as it doesn't taste of owt.AlexCricket wrote:Surely if you put Vaseline around the thread of the tap on a bottom tap barrel you would get loads of the stuff in your beer?

Re: King Keg - How to prepare before filling with ale?
Make sure all the vaseline stays inside the high lip,and don't put buckets of it on, just enough to seal all around. I take out the ring, smear that in vaseline then put it back in. Your beer shouldn't really make it anywhere near the vaseline anyway, unless you're splashing the keg about an awful lot.
