caxton real ale question?
hi all,im about to start mysecondkit of home brew. its a tom caxton real ale and the instructions advise to add 1kg of sugar to the mix .ive read somewhere thats its better to add spraymalt..is that correct? would i add the same ammount i.e 1kg of the spraymalt in place of the 1kg of sugar? and then just follow the instructions? thanks in advance matt

Substituting 1KG of spraymalt for the 1KG sugar will make a massive difference. If you that then I'd advise you also change the yeast as some of those kit yeasts struggle with that much malt. Safale S-04 is a good, easy yeast to use.

i use 700g spray malt and some golden syrup bout 300g,i have used bke with golden syrup with good results without replacing the yeast but maybe its worth trying..

thanks chaps,been to the local home brews shop and they have given me a beerkit enhancer(i guess thats the same as spaymalt) shall i still add some of the hop enhancement sachet that came with the kit?

Beer kit enhancer is 50/50 spraymalt and sugar. It will certainly be a lot better than using 1KG sugar. Your kit yeast should be OK with it.

thanks, should i still add the hop enhancement sachet that came with the kit?

i always add all the hop enhancer,stir it in before adding ya yeast..

I usually add about half the sachet, find that all the sachet makes the beer alittle too bitter for my tastes.
