Hopping question

Post by timb » Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:46 am

Good Morning!
I'm brewing a Chocolate treacle stout this morning. I found the recipe somewhere on here a while ago.
5500g Pale
510g Roasted barley
225g Wheat
170g Chocolate malt

!00g Northdown Start of boil

300g Treacle 20mins before end of boil

Does this look like too many hops, or will they be balanced by the treacle? My northdown are 8%

Any suggestions welcome
Thanks :)

I haven't put the numbers in the Beer Engine but I think you'll end up roughly with something with 1.060-1.070 as OG and 70-80 IBU depending on your efficiency. That seems too bitter to me, but I never used treacle, so I don't know.

Thanks for getting back Mauri. I've gone back and compared a few similar recipes and yes, this might be a little bitter but I've gone for it as recipe. We'll see what happens. Hopefully it will balance out given time.
Thanks again
