Too Much Water

Post by benl88 » Tue Oct 06, 2009 10:05 pm

Hi,

First post and shame its due to a stupid mistake:)

Rather than adding 23L to my Woodfordes Great Eastern Ale kit i have added 25L.

The beer has already started fermenting as i only realised after i added the yeast. How badly will this batch be affected? and is there anything that can be done ?? Adding additional Malt Extract etc? or am i best just leaving?

One thing i will say is ive wont be brewing late at night again as concentration levels are low :)

It wont be that much different, a little lower % but should taste fine.

The cans hold about 2 litres so if you've added 25 litres of water you've got about 27 litres of beer rather than 22. It will have a lower ABV and will taste a bit weaker, but on the upside you can drink more of it.

When the solution to the problem is drink more beer, you haven't actually got a problem.

I have just done exactly the same with my first brew and after leaving for a week in the keg and bottles it tastes great and plenty strong enough so look forward to a good brew

I've just gone and done the same thing with a Wherry kit!

Does this mean that my final gravity reading will be different from the 1014 quoted in the instructions?

Thanks,
Mark
