Another water treatment question..

Another water treatment question..

Hello all

According to Southern Water, my water alkalinity expressed as CaCO3 averages 306 ppm - classed as very hard water indeed.

Now, I'm about to embark on producing a mild and Brupaks suggest that an alkalinity of between 100-150 ppm would be desirable - which is easy to sort out with

the addition of CRS.

When it comes to adding Calcium, I'm multiplying my original CaCO3 amount by 0.4 (is this right?) to get my Calcium content.

My question is this - because my water is so hard in the first place that after I do the above formula (assuming it's right) the figure I get is a very high 122.4 ppm.

Will it effect my mash/boil if I add nothing and rely on the Ca remaining in my water?

You actually WANT a figure of about 120-140ppm of Ca for a mild anyway so I would say it is spot on :D
