Using a second bucket I add before the beer so it mixes itself. If you add to the fermenter give it a gentle stir to mix it up and let any yeast you raise settle again for a few minutes.

I have a question about whether you can add finings to the beer at the same time as the priming sugars.

Will fined beer condition properly in the bottle or will it settle out too much and not ferment the primng sugar?

Its not recommended that you add finings when bottling. The resulting sediment will be unstable and likely to come out when you pour completely negating the whole point of fining in the first place.

I've not had a beer that I've bottled yet that has not settled out given sufficient time. By all mean add finings in the keg if you want quick results but not for bottles.

Brilliant post and guide which makes bottling look simple!

Just a quick question as Iam struggling to find a bottling stick but Thrifty do a little bottler http://www.thethriftyshopper.co.uk/brew ... plete.aspx

Is this the same thing?

Cheers

I am 99% certain The little bottler is the same thing attached to a tap - you replace the tap on you FV/bottling bucket with the one that comes with the bottler and the needle valve stick attaches to it. ( Not got one yet but looking for someone online who does theat and the botlle tree and washer).

Hop and Grape certainly do the standard stick without the tap attached (and the tree)...
http://www.hopandgrape.co.uk/catalog/ca ... GEN2147353

How to connect the stick to your tap...
http://18000feet.mesb.co.uk/how/bottle.htm

A friend of mine has a bottling stick with the tap attached and says that you can also remove it and fit it to other taps in the same way, although I don't know if all such bottling sticks are constructed the same.

Hope the helps!

pretty much. one thing you might do to make it more comfortable is to add your plastic beer line between tap and wand - this way you end up with very mobile and flexible "little bottler" - makes bottling easier, at least for me.

Another quick question as I gear up for my first bottleing attempt!

Do you fill all your bottles then cap em, or do you fill a bottle and cap it, then fill the next and cap that..... and so on? Just wondering about air in the brew etc!

Cheers!

I do them one box/crate at a time (12 bottles) as its convenient, but I wouldn't worry too much if you cap them all at the end.

fill -> cap -> move to crate on my end, just convenient for me.

I think, you might want to cap them reasonably fast to avoid exposure to air/possible contamination. thats only thing that comes to mind against filling the batch and capping it later...
