Hello all. I'm just bottling my woodfordes which has been in the fv for 18 days due to lack of tine at home. The fg is 1012 but there is a strong pear drop smell. When I started it I noticed the fish tank heater was set too high and dropped it back down to 18 - 20 c , I've not hard this particular issue in any previous brews, is it likely to be an infection or caused by too high a temperature during the inital fermentation? It tastes ok, for this stage so I'm bottling anyway, I'd hate to waste all thy precious beer.
Any thoughts are,as always, gratefully recieved.

Re: Pear drop esters smell in Admirals reserve.
Temperature was most likely the cause. Leave it conditioning in the cold for a few months once bottled or kegged, it might get rid of some of the off flavours, chances are though that it's not gonna go away. Lesson learned.

Beer always smells quite pungent out of the fermenter, go ahead and bottle it.
