Trying a Golden Ale Recipe for the wife - she loves beers like Otley O1, Hooky Gold, Williams Brothers Birds & Bees, Badger Golden Champion etc

Volume At Pitching: 23.00 l

Expected Pre-Boil Gravity: 1.033 SG
Expected OG: 1.041 SG
Expected FG: 1.008 SG
Expected ABV: 4.3 %

Expected IBU (using Tinseth): 33.7
Expected Color: 9.6 EBC
BU:GU: 0.82

Fermentables

UK Pale Ale Malt (Low Color) 3.560 kg (89.8 %) In Mash/Steeped
Barley Bottom Light Crystal Malt 0.200 kg (5.0 %) In Mash/Steeped
Sugar - White Sugar/Sucrose 0.205 kg (5.2 %) Start Of Boil

Hops
====
UK Progress (5.5 % alpha) 45 g Loose Whole Hops used First Wort Hopped
UK First Gold (8.0 % alpha) 10 g Loose Whole Hops used 10 Min From End
UK First Gold (8.0 % alpha) 10 g Loose Whole Hops used 1 Min From End

Yeast: Danstar-Nottingham

Any thoughts?

Why not use all First Gold and add 30g of dried elderflower. First Gold and elderflower are a match made in heaven. Will be similar to Golden Champion. Honey is great in this mix too. :wink:

When do you add the elderflower?

Last 15 mins of the boil. Add around 30g-35g. I get my elderflower from here:

Speedy delivery and really good quality.

You may need to use finings though as the dried elderflower may cause very slight haziness. This does clear over time though.

You could add around 100-150g of torrified wheat to aid head retention as well. I didn't add sugar as it does nothing for flavour.
