Yes I have heard that. The conditioning is not to be taken as that extreme. The grains should have no trouble soaking up the small amount of water presented in the conditioning in 20 or 30 minutes.

I wonder if conditioning would make dark roasted malts less friable. I once had a stuck mash caused by the dark malt turning to dust. If using a lot of roasted malts I was told to grind them last so they are on the top of the mash, and to add rice hulls.
Sommeliers recommend that you swirl a glass of wine and inhale its bouquet before throwing it in the face of your enemy.
