I'm gong to brew a Schwarzbier this week with left over WLP-838 slurry. My recipe is almost identical to yours, although I'm also using about 112g of chocolate malt.

Well I've just takena gravity reading and it's down to 1.012 so thats 4.8%ABV. Taste is really good, clean, not too bitter, and the Hallertauer Hersbrucker are nicely in the mix!. Not too cloudy, but not crystal clear either (prob will help with bottling!). It's currently at about 12.5oC, going to rack it into a secondary to get it off the trub (it was cooled in the FV overnight, although no off flavours! :D Bonus!), then bring the temp up a bit for a diacetyl rest. Then it's off to the garage under air lock for a week before bottling! I was going to keg it but I can't really affor the corni space to be tied up as I have alot going on brew wise at the mo. I'm putting my RIS into a keg to condition for a year so have managed to convince SWMBO to let me get another 1 (or 2   )

as this is my 1st lager does my plan sound ok! Cheers

Well I racked this to a secondary last night to get it off all the trub and crap in the FV. Going to larger it for another week or so in the garage (which is currently about 0.5-1 degC) then keg, carb, and bottle :D

You can't really tell how clear it is but I was very surprised. Don't think it'll need finning

If you ask me (which you didn't) tying up a cornie for a whole year with conditioning beer is completely mad. Bottle it.

Depends on how many cornies you have I suppose

Well this got bottled from the corni this morning. Ended up with 30 500ml bottles (I've had to have a couple of pints PURLEY for testing purposes to asses the carbonation levels! :D :D :D :D

bloody awesome lager (if I do say so myself). It's been worth the 8 weeks since brewday, but I'm going to leave it in the bottle for another fortenight before cracking into it. Taste wise it is crisp and clean with the hertsbrucker giving a lovely floral, almost perfumey (in a good way) flavour. It has dropped bright without any finings aswell which is cool. Definitley going to do this again. :D :D

So - did you lager cold, then carbonate in cornie and then bottle from that? How is it form the bottle and how did you bottle carbonated beer (does it hold the fizz? never bottled from a cornie before)

I'm lagering my rauch marzen at the moment (needs at least 2 months) in a pressure barrel but then not sure what to do - have some unfermented wort reserved and some yeast from the split so was thinking of cornie for half of it and just force carb but then adding the gyle and fresh yeast, stir and bottle and allow to bottle condition in cellar at lager fermenting temps of 10C and then drop temp further and re-lager in bottles for a few weeks or so...
