Re: caragold
It's a very low colour crystal.

Difficult to get hold of though! I know Warminster Maltings produce it and you can buy through them but only in 25kg quantities.
You could get in touch with The Homebrew Shop in Farnborough and see if they could get some for you.

Re: caragold
Good question!
I'm going to split some of it with a local fellow homebrewer and attempt some Triple FFF clones (as they use caragold).

Re: caragold
First the easy part I got some recently from Worcester Hop Shop and they still have it http://www.worcesterhopshop.co.uk/produ ... 53d621baf7
The harder part is describing the effect - like carpils only more so but less than cara munich isn't really very helpful!
I brew straw coloured/blonde ales and I like to add carapils routinely to add a malt undertone, caragold is slightly more caramel/toffee and might add a hint of yellow depending on how much you add. My suggestion would be that if you normally add up to 200g of carapils replace it with caragold and you'll get a different beer of the same style which will illlustrate what caragold can do without going over the top.
I have just put down what I'd thought would be a darker ale using paLE and muich and the 300g caragold and 150g caramunich and the colour and flavour are much lighter than i anticipatred

Re: caragold
Thankyou for showing me that (I don't know how I managed to not find it) and happy brewing!
Re: caragold
http://copperkettlehomebrewing.co.uk/ sometimes have it in. I picked some up last time I was there. He doesnt seem to have it at the mo, but he has always been really good when it comes to getting stuff in for me in the past.
Re: caragold
Hi Blackaddler, can you tell me how your brew turned out? I'm planning a brew tomorrow with cara gold, which I've never used. I'm tempted to chuck the whole lot in which will amount to 10% of the grain bill, the rest being pale with a touch of wheat. However part of me says this might end up a bit sweet? I like my ales on the dryer side, but would like to get a good toffee taste with this one. Hopping with nelson sauvin and styriansBlackaddler wrote:How did it go?
I'm brewing a blonde ale, with about 10% Caragold, tomorrow.

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Re: caragold
It worked very well, actually. I'll brew it again when I get some more Caragold.

It was a nice refreshing summer/session beer.
