misread a recipe, got confused with converting it, and put a 30 minute hop amount on to boil for 90 minutes.

Didn't taste nice at all!

The landing was quite spectacular and would have been worthy of a slow-mo sequence in one of those mid-range budget sci-fi film.

There would have been a girl in the shot.

Not as cute as the star of the film but quite a cute girl nevertheless.

I enjoyed the landing becauset they really were sh*te scales. I once watched them measure 6g of gypsum as 6g...7g....5g...2g...10g...

I am well rid.

I think we have all managed a cock up or two . Boilover what a mess , pouring sterilizing agent into 23lts of wort instead of sugar didn't taste too good after that , left tap open , ran out of gas half way through a boil and this is a classic , measured out hops in ounces thinking it was grams got a third for my TTL in a comp go figure.

Cheers

For my first two brews misreading the calculator so failing to account for the amount you lose during the boil - couldn't work out why always came up short. #-o

Forgot the protafloc on my last brew (a Summer Lightning Clone).

Checked the FG in one FV, didn't check it in the second until after I'd bottled, second must have been colder as it had stopped at 1020. Great fun emptying all the bottles out and repitching etc.
Planning: Election interference Russian Imperial Cocoa Stout and something for Christmas
Fermenting: Nothing beery (there is a kombucha going though)
Conditioning: Nothing
Bottled (Drinking): 1936 Mackesons, Weissbeer, Summer Lightning

Great Brewday thread. Just got a reminder that I never added my sugar to kettle. Chilling now, but I'll boil and drop it in. It's good to be reminded what a general screw up I am!

Thanks, Bill

Bill,
We aim to to please and , if I'm honest, I'm guilty of the same mistake too. Though I didn't want to admit it.
Just back from the Edale Skyline fell race and recuperating with the best part of a gallon (imperial measure) and a fine single malt to chase for my efforts.
Regards,
Roy

First run mistake - not cooling the sample from the mash tun to work out what gravity to stop at so landed up stopping a good 20 points early. Thankfully, the refractometer now takes care of this pain...

Others: Forgetting hop strainer  , putting water into mash tun with the tap open  , breaking hydros, thermometers, etc

Bro.,

Congrats on a hard effort. The first I have heard of the sport. Would be interesting if I ever get back into shape, though we have few hills in the midwest.

Cheers, Bill

I put my boiler element on when there was no water in the boiler! Destroyed it, but I did have another container which I could use as a boiler so all was not lost.

Thanks, Bill.

The Edale Skyline is a classic English fell race. 21 miles and 4500 foot of ascent with some peat bogs thrown in for good measure.
The 2 hills on the horizon here:

are in the first third of the course. I'm the old knacker in red on photo no. 38.

Got a Hobgoblin brew done on the weekend while the mother in law was visiting. Kept coming into the kitchen and I was losing my concentration. Opened the hops with a very sharp knife, stupidly cutting towards myself. Managed to skewer my stomach and draw a small amount of blood. What was I thinking!

To make matters worse I had added the lovely sweet liquid to the boiler, came to sterilise the fermenter and saw my hop filter on the side. AGAIN. Had to plonk it into the hot water tun and transfer 30L of 90+ degree C liquid and use the hot water tun instead.

I am now printing a sign to remind me about the hop filter.

New mistake for me. Bottled 23ltrs of Stout yesterday... had it all in bottles and was merrily capping each bottle when I heard a crash. The vibrations from the capper had sent the (almost) empty barrel to the edge of the dining room table and thrown stout all over the cream carpet. Wouldn't have happend with the IPAs I've been doing recently - had to be the stout!

Got the Vanish out of the cupboard and scrubbed frantically before the missus stuck her nose in. There's a stain (conveniently) under a chair - not sure how much is moisture or how much is stout. Time will tell. Lesson: Move barrel to kitchen before banging around with capper.
