Can anyone advise my best option for a gas burner for one of these 120 litre boliers? Has anyone stuck with the existing burners? I will be using propane. I've looked at a couple of options. One of the guys I know has a large wok burner as per this website http://www.stockpotsrus.co.uk/index.php ... 06a4a43c5f but they are not cheap. Not sure which one he has, but presume it's one of the bigger ones. They are a bit pricey. Another option is a burner from this website http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/B ... rners.html They seem more reasonable, and postage is not too bad, but not sure which one would be best get +100 litres up to a rolling boil.

Thanks for any advice that you can offer.
Cheers,
Billy.
Billy,

My plan is to stick with the original burners, but to replace the natural gas jets with propane ones. They can be had from www.cateringburners.co.uk for £1.30 or so each - so it's cheaper than replacing the entire burner assembly. Replacement burners (propane or natural gas) are £72.45 each from the same place.

Just wanted to bump this thread (I think that's the correct term)

Having followed this thread for a while I ended up buying the last boilers from Jugg foods, I'm slowly groping towards setting up a HERMS system and am slowly gathering together all the bits I need.

Fairly soon I'm hoping to take delivery of a BCS-460 brewery controller, I thought If I attempted the aduodino circuit board messing myself it could add an extra year to the project! I've got 3 temp sensors coming too (1 for HLT, 2 for mash tun??) but now am wondering how I'm going to mount them as the boilers have an "exhaust jacket" surrounding them so sticking the sensor through a hole in the side may give an inaccurate reading (or result in melted wiring)

Turns out that only one of the boilers I ended up with has got the full burner on the bottom of it (the one with loads of nozzles pointing in different directions) so I'm going to renozzle that and then have that as either my HLT or my Copper...

at the moment looking for inspiration or wondering if any of the other Juggernaughteers have made any progress with their layouts and setups?

Any suggestions on plumbing, probe positions, layout, burners, gas safety (I plan to control the LPG powered burners using the BCS-460- may go down the new burner with flame supervisor and pilot light route to make it all legit)

have also bought a dishwasher recirc pump to do the herms recirc stuff, any sources for stainless coils or techniques for producing stainless coils appreciated!

er... that's it!

HELP!!

cheers

:-)

I can't give you all the info, but i can help with a few suggestions Dave.
1. if you are going to re-jet, i would suggest running a tap through the threads (5/16 UNF) first as, they will be in a poor state. Plenty of good non setting PTFE based thread sealer on the jets.
2. LPG Jets from here: http://www.bes.co.uk/products/018.asp
3. Not sure of the safety aspect, but i have ditched the pilot light and flame-out device and fitted a gas cooker control valve.

Nicely done there Jubby! I like the wheels too.....makes those big heavy buggers easier to move around.

I like the hop strainer too - although I'm thinking of going MuddyDisco false bottoms for mine.

One question...where did you get the adaptor for the 2" out pipe to the ball valve from?

Ta adm.
The idea behind the hop strainer is so that when using pellets i can slide a stainless mesh tube over it, Not tried it yet though :?

The tap adaptor was designed and drawn up by the chap who sold me the boiler and made by a guy in Ireland. It cost £40, but it's a super piece of workmanship. I will find his details and pm you.

Negative.

I dropped the project over the summer, given my earlier health problems, but now I'm back on track with that. I shall be picking the brewery construction up again over the winter. Boingy's given me some serious inspiration there.....

all this progress on these is quite embarrassing.
I haven't even made a start on mine!
Finding next to no time for projects these days.
may even have to consider giving up on it and allowing another jbk member to become a juggernauter.
