APA Hopping - Summit with...?

Post by coatesg » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:47 pm

Hi chaps,

I'm trying to pin down my list of upcoming brews (which has chopped and changed a bit in the last month!) - I'm brewing some beer for a bash in December, and I'll probably brew an APA as one of them (I've got a Whitbread porter and will do a Best to go with it :). Just contemplating my recipe options, and looking for some ideas - here's one of my current ideas, though I'm unsure if I want to add a lightly roasted malt (aromatic/biscuit) in there, and/or drop the crystal?

Lager malt 87%, Wheat 5%, Munich 4%, Light Crystal 4%. OG 1049. IBU 40. Mash 68C

Summit 90min to 32IBU
Centennial, Cascade, 15min, 9g each, ~8IBU total
Centennial, Cascade, 0min, 18g each.
Dry hopping 7 days: 14g Cascade, 14g Willamette

Yeast US05.

Any thoughts or additions corrections? (Those are about the US hops I have, though I have a load of British hops, and a smidge of styrians and hallertau)

Should have said that I'll try a summit only pale ale (like Whorst's one) later on too, just not this brew :D
