Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Here is my recent attempt at a jaipur clone, and my first home brew:
Most Unexpected IPA (English IPA)
Brew Length: 25L
Original Gravity (OG): 1.064
Final Gravity (FG) : 1.016
Colour (SRM): 6.6 (EBC): 13.0
Bitterness (IBU): 49.6 (Tinseth)
6.00kg Maris Otter Malt
0.70kg Vienna
10g Ahtanum (5% Alpha) @ 75 Minutes (Boil)
12g Centennial (10.1% Alpha) @ 75 Minutes (Boil)
10g Warrior (15.8% Alpha) @ 75 Minutes (Boil)
10g Ahtanum (5% Alpha) @ 45 Minutes (Boil)
12g Centennial (10.1% Alpha) @ 45 Minutes (Boil)
10g Chinook (12.7% Alpha) @ 45 Minutes (Boil)
36g Ahtanum (5% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)
48g Centennial (10.1% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)
48g Chinook (12.7% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)
Single step Infusion at 67°C for 90 Minutes.
Boil for 75 Minutes
Final hops 80°C for 30 mins.
Fermented at 19°C with WLP001 - California Ale
It's mostly taken from other peopes recipes with slight adjustments. It tasted good as it went into the bottle, but was slightly sweet and cloudy 'cos I made a lot of mistakes. I also only got about 17L in the FV.

Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
That's pretty ambitious for a first attempt - my first ever homebrew was one of the kits that you used to get from Boots!schlafsack wrote:Here is my recent attempt at a jaipur clone, and my first home brew:

I figured that if I aim for the stars I should at least get to the moonnaffolddog wrote:That's pretty ambitious for a first attempt - my first ever homebrew was one of the kits that you used to get from Boots!
Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Russ,
Sounds a bit like Danstar Windsor in behavior.
OK if you keep the ph. down but can be a sod
to clear on pale beers. Might have a re-think on that.
Just for info. I`ve had the Brewferm lager yeast bubbling
away at 8deg. C. Needs 8-12 weeks lagering to clear though.
Thanks for your reply.

@schlafsack
thanks for the recipe! I'll have a look at it later, how did it taste?

Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
It's clearing (or not as the case may be) in the bottle at the moment, but the wort had a nice balance. Fruity and bitter like jaipur, but slightly sweet due to some mistakes I made. It ended up at about 1018 in the FV but I'm hoping that it will become a little drier as it matures. The californian ale yeast started had a very lemony/sour taste that I was initially worried about but it seems that it was fine.
Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Hi andybiochem,
I have made your original Jaipur recipe with all the caramalt.
Fermented down to 1013 no problem. Lost a lot of
wort in the hops, only 15 litrs. left out of 23. Shame
squeezing out the hops can be detrimental.
Just chilling for a couple of days prior to bottling.
Only 2 deviations;
1 could not get ahtanum hops so used simcoe.
2 Used a big pitch, 30 gms. of s-o4 yeast.
Early siffs and sippers seem very promising!
Many thanks, f

Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Hi Andybiochem,
Have made your 1st recipe with the half kilo of caramalt and
it`s turned out just fine.Lots of wort left in the hops sadly.
Had a taste from the fermenter .......bootiful.
No ahtanum so used simcoe.
No us-o5 so used good old s-04.
og. 1061 fg.1013 so will bottle at that.
Many thanks f.

Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Well, I`ve just had a first taste of no. 1 recipe, and,
wait for it..............Absolutely Stunning!
It`s darker and not as bitter as the commercial
but oh so floral, hoppy and drinkable.
Little bit sweet yet, only 11 days in bottle but
time is on its` side.
Only downside, lost a lot of wort in the hops.
Only 25 bottles from the recipe, approx 55p a bottle.
Your 2nd recipe would probably be nearer the original.
Many thanks to andybiochem.

Re: Help me craft a 'Jaipur' IPA
Wow, glad it turned out good for you!
I didn't think much of it to be honest, but since then I've used simcoe too, which I think would probably be much nicer.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hi
andybiochem - New to this, been using kits and am not interested in extract/grain. Being the amateur i am and seeking the advice from the master, i am looking to make the clone and wander if your second recipe could be explained a bit more on the process involved once i have the ingredients.
