burton bridge top dog stout - amount of hops?

Post by drmick » Fri Oct 08, 2010 5:24 pm

as the weather is meant to be nice this weekend going to make a couple of brews to use up the grain I have before, obviously, ordering more. One of the things I am going to make is Burton Bridge Top Dog Stout - never had it before but want to make a stout and this was the only one I have the ingredients for from BYOBRA.

The recipe calls for 20g of Challenger, which by my calculations gives an EBU of about 16. The recipe says it should be 40. Which is correct? Looking at the other stout recipes they use about double the amount of hops as this one and have EBUs of about 40 so I am thinking the hops are wrong.

Any help gratefully received

Cheers alfie09, I thought it probably was the hop amount that was wrong. I'll up the hops to 40EBU and see what happens.

drmick, I see from your brew list that you are doing a Wherry, I don't suppose you mind posting or pm-ing me the recipe please? Having been looking for a recipe for ages, I think it's pale, cara, crystal, goldings, progress and styrians. Is this about right?
