This is my one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32754
Re: thought i'd share this, cheap foodgrade pump for sparge
Had my first go with this today on a brew, very good. For the first time ever I've not lifted 20 odd litres of (sometimes boiling hot) wort around. I had a 12v/5v PSU that came with an IDE>USB connector for powering a hard drive, got a whole load of brass fittings from Toolstation & it's all good. No time to do pics today, but maybe on my next brew.

Hi
I have been looking at buying a pump and saw these, which one is best to buy 20/20 or 14/10?
thanks

I think they are both exactly the same except the hose connections. The 20/20 which i bought uses 1/2" bsp fittings which are dead easy to find.lewis1981 wrote:Hi

Anyone know anything about the flow rate at different voltages? I have emailed the company and not recieved a reply. I wanted to know if the lowest usable voltage did in fact deliver a flow rate of around the 1l/min mark...? (Considering a small rims/herms)

Interesting. I've no pumps at the moment but will need to get a bunch of them for HLT (recirc/sparge), HERMS recirculation and kettle whirlpooling. I guess these tiny ones don't have the grunt for the whirlpooling, but has anyone used them successfully with HERMS (I'm sure the HLT usage is easy as pie)?

I've spoken to Peter about the 20/20 pump and they come in 3 different power outputs...
6W for 2m head
8W for 3m head
12W for 5m head.
I'm going to use the Maplin 1200mA AC adapter that some of you guys use. Could I use the 12W safely with this adapter?

Re: thought i'd share this, cheap foodgrade pump for sparge
I'd have thought so, 12v at 12w is 1amp, so a 1.2amp supply should be ok.
Re: thought i'd share this, cheap foodgrade pump for sparge
That's what I was thinking. Either way, if it were to overload the adapter then all I would have to do is refrain from using it at 12v.R1ch wrote:I'd have thought so, 12v at 12w is 1amp, so a 1.2amp supply should be ok.

Only the 6 (6.6W) version is listed on the website, which is what I bought, it's a bit weedy imoScotty Mc wrote:I've spoken to Peter about the 20/20 pump and they come in 3 different power outputs...

Are you saying that if you call they can provide a 12w more powerful pump?

The plastic and stainless steel versions of these pumps are used in the US for homebrew applications, but the really need a relief valve to pump well:

Brewchron, I think you should read the thread before posting - the pumps discussed here are around $40, not $250.

For Beerkiss and if anyone else is interested:
Setup - ~200mm of 10mm copper tube with short piece of silicone tube to the inlet of pump, ~900m silicone (i.d. ~8mm) and ~300mm of 10mm copper return tubes to mash tun. "Plug top" power adaptor - 1Amp switched output, regulated type. Cold water. Zero head.
Pump voltage vs flow rate -
12 volts 3.2 litres per minute
9V 2.6 lpm
7.5V 2.2 lpm
6V 1.8 lpm
4.5V 1.3 lpm
I did not check the voltage or current. I suspect that the flow might be significantly higher through wider/shorter tube.
The pump stalls at 3.0 volts, so operation at 4.5 volts might be unreliable.
On my peeko system I control the flow rate by thottling the output from the Speck-8000, not by voltage control, so I am reasonably sure that you could leave this pump running at 12V and throttle it's output - maybe by squeezing the tube with a clamp?

Re: thought i'd share this, cheap foodgrade pump for sparge
I just recieved the following email from Peter at Solar Projects regarding the different W pumps

Yes Neil, I have these pumps in three versions: 6 watt, 8 watt and 12 watt. If you would like a 12 watt then just order the SP20/20 on the web shop (see link below) and email me to at the same time to tell me which model to send. (Currently all the same price of £26)
