Stupid question alert!!!
I've never tried wheat malt before, (here goes...) does it make the beer taste like a wheat beer?

I ask because the only wheat beer I have ever tried was Hoegarden (spelling?) and it wasn't to my taste at all. Is that the typical taste of wheat malt or am I way off?
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

there are no stupid questions matey! (well maybee a couple, like why do they call orange jam marmalade! :D)

I can't detect that level of wheat malt in a beer. It's there for head retention purposes!

Incidentally I don't like the taste of torrified wheat. Thats why I changed to wheat malt! :D

Cheers for the answer LB! :D

I may try some wheat malt myself as I always use torrified for head. I don't think my palate is refined enough to notice the taste from it though.

Good luck with your brewday. :D

I'd say Pale Malt & Wheat Malt are about the same Taste-wise, I think it is supposed to make a softer feeling beer (not sure how that works), and as you've already mentioned its good for head :)

Wheat beer flavours generally are a lot yeast derived (like the phenols in a wit like hoegaarden or the banana/clove in a weizen). Wheat malt alone doesn't give a hoegaarden like flavour.
