Good evening to the collective brain of Jim. Any thoughts of this brew i'm planning on doing this weekend? Would appreciate any thoughts as this is another of my own recipe ideas. Hoping this is gonna end up hoppy n light n have a good head retention.
23 litre batch
Grain Bill
Marris otter - 5kg
Crystal malt - 300g
Wheat malt - 200g
60 minute boil
Northdown 7.5% 20g 60 mins
Cascade 4.6% 20g 15 mins
Fuggles 4.3% 20g 15 mins
Cascade 4.6% 30g 10 mins
Fuggles 4.3% 30g 10 mins
Cascade 4.6% 30g flame out
Fuggles 4.3% 30g flame out
Dry hop in KK
Cascade 4.6% 30g
Fuggles 4.3% 30g
I know this is gonna be hoppy with lots of aroma which is what i'm wanting, hoping to put this on now so I can leave it until the weather starts getting warmer around end of march (probably won't be able to leave it all till then).
If anyone has any advice or suggestions i'd be glad to hear them.
Cheers all, James

Sounds good as it is. I like that style of beer. Just brew it, it will be great

Cheers trucker. I was hoping this would be a good one, i love hoppy beers too, especially just as the weather turns good. I'm guessing that with the dry hops in the KK that the aromas etc will stay in the beer for a few months conditioning.

The only point I think, which raises a question, is that it sounds like you intend to leave the dry hops in the beer as a permanent feature. I think most people remove them after a couple of weeks (and usually add in the secondary FV)

Yeah I couldn't decide whether to secondary for 2 weeks or put in the keg permenantly. Would there be a problem with leaving them in the KK permenently? Put em in a steralised weighted bag n just leave em to it.
Re: AG hoppy heady ale
comercially dry hops are added to the cask .the way i was taught was it was pointless unless theyre going to infuse for two weeks, in practice ive found they start to make a difference after about eight days.trucker5774 wrote:The only point I think, which raises a question, is that it sounds like you intend to leave the dry hops in the beer as a permanent feature. Re: AG hoppy heady ale
That may be sound practice for a commercial ale which will be drunk fairly soon. I don't know what it would be like in home brew after 4 months. Any knowledge, Critch?critch wrote:comercially dry hops are added to the cask .the way i was taught was it was pointless unless theyre going to infuse for two weeks, in practice ive found they start to make a difference after about eight days.trucker5774 wrote:The only point I think, which raises a question, is that it sounds like you intend to leave the dry hops in the beer as a permanent feature. Re: AG hoppy heady ale
ive known em to be left in a strong old ale for over a year(one of stan shaws brews from wapping),ive left it in a cask i kept for four months before drinking it, with no problems whatsoever
