Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Hi all
Has anybody got a recipe that's close to Kipling? I presume it doesn't have much in the way of malt apart from a ton of pale ( I'll stand corrected though ), so I'm just wondering how much and when of the Nelson Sauvin would be needed to get close to the flavour? If I can't find any Nelson Sauvin, what would be an acceptable replacement hop?
Cheers Tom

Not at the moment though I will keep checking though........ I was wondering more about the amounts to use though rather than the availability. I'll always have pale malt at home so if I've got a recipe I can wait till I can actually find some hops then brew when I'm ready
Cheers Tom

Hi,
Apart from the NS hops I'm not sure about a recipe/hop schedule etc...
I know that they like to use late hopping via their hopback...
I also like Hopton too as it uses Bramling cross - which I think is underated as a English hop variety... I'd love to get my hands on a clone recipe for either but have not yet found anything...
Good luck!
Guy

If I can't find any info on the amounts they use I'll just have to play around and see how things turn out. It's a hard job isn't it?

Their ex-brewer Kelly Ryan was very helpful but he's gone back to New Zealand to work with Epic. https://twitter.com/#!/EpicBeerKel might be worth a question or two.

I'll have a fiddle with twitter later. If I can make any sense of it I'll contact the brewery and Kelly and see how I get on

Couldn't get my head around twitter, it just looked like a load of nonsense to me. Must be getting old
Those Nelson Sauvin hops are rather expensive too, very limited availability by the look of it. I'll plan an experimental brew for the future when I'm ready to order more malt and stuff

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Hi! I think this should get you pretty close:
OG: 1.050
FG: 1.010
IBU: Around 40ish
Single step infusion @ 65 degC
Use some gypsum added to the grist
85% Maris Otter (Low Colour)
7.5% Munich
7.5% Torrified Wheat
60 minute boil
Start of boil: Nelson Sauvin, about 27 IBUs
After 30 mins: Nelson Sauvin, about 15 IBUs, same size as first addition
Flameout/Hopback: Nelson Sauvin, three times as much as the first addition
Pitch cool at around 16 degC and let it rise to normal fermentation temp.
I guess US05 would be a decent yeast for this beer.
Yum!

Nice work tfxm
I've got some s-05 but no Nelson Sauvin hops yet. They're on my next shopping list though
Myterio...... Any chance you can let us know how it turns out? Mind you, the best way to find out is to have a go myself
Cheers Tom
