King Keg Lid Stuck
King Keg Lid Stuck
As it says in the title really. Just tried to get the lid off my King Keg after the first use (2nd hand Keg). Had gassed it up with a pub gas system, have released all of the remaining gas but the lid is stuck fast. Smacking it with a hammer has only managed to break off one of the black grips. Had used vaseline around the seal and a bit on the threads (by accident) and its been closed for a month or so, but now its refusing to budge. Is there a knack to it or do I need to source a keg spanner?
Cheers

A good grunt and it will shift. Grip the keg between your legs, one hand either side of the lid, lock your fingers and *grunt*
Keg spanner is a useful bit 'o kit though.

Needs more Cowbell.

I've just been "grunting" with the damned thing for 20 minutes in the shed. I'd like to think I have understanding neighbours but to be honest anymore and I think I'd call the police...

Blue
I've had the same problem in the past with a cap that just wouldn't budge.
I finished up warming up the lid with a hair dryer to soften up the vaseline. That made turning the cap much easier.
Hope that helps.

You've emptied the gas, but make sure there's no vacuum either. Get a towel to wrap around the lid and protect your hands. Boil a kettle and gently pour the hot water over the lid with the keg tilted to avoid it heating the barrel too. Wait a little while to let the heat spread through the lid, grab the towel and repeat the actions of the 20 minutes stunt in the shed. With it being your first time you'll find it might come all of a sudden.
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

Hi,
I would recommend getting a tool called a boa wrench - google and you will find. Axminster Power tools definitely sell them.
http://www.axminster.co.uk/boa-boa-wrenches-prod22720/ You want the standard size one.
This is a great tool, will not damage the lid and is useful for a whole pile of other stuff as well. I use one all the time on my wood lathe but have also needed to use it on kegs.
BM.

You can get a lid spanner for a couple of quid - quite femmer looking plastic but works a treat!
Nothing's forgotten, nothings EVER forgotten...
Re: King Keg Lid Stuck
Managed it by pouring boiling water over the lid to expand it. Still a sod to shift it mind. Bought a boa wrench for next time for a couple of quid off flea bay.
Thanks for the ideas lads.

I read this thread and bought a boa to get the stuck lid off mine. Genius thing, worked like a charm,
