I don't think theres anything wrong with making it, or even drinking it.

Why are lager drinkers/makers so hated on this forum?
I thought about posting a question about making a lager earlier this week but before I did I did a search and found people were posting hate messages like "piss in a bucket and drink that same as lager" when people where asking for help so I didn't bother. If people post a question about bitter or stout I don't see any go shit in a bucket posts!

Bit off topic maybe, but I once had a hand pulled lager (Shehallion or summat) in Scotland - absolutely lovely, it was, and nothing like any of the usual lagers you get.

Yeah cask conditioned lagers are becoming popular - a few micros do them now( and some regionals)...
The Germans do one which they call 'kellerbeir'
I've brewed several lagers from both extract and AG - I make styles you cant easily get hold of like Vienna, dunkel and Oktoberfest...
If I wanted a Pils/pilsner I'd probably buy it though as I doubt my skill set is up to cloning a good Czech pils... (Shame)
I've seen the threads referred to on heere and alot of those coments are aimed at people wanting to " make a good lager like fosters or carling" which on a forum dedicated to beer is like saying I want to eat cheese butties on a 'foody forum' (not that there is any thing wrong with a decent chesse butty...
Each to their own..
Dont fear posting if you have a question about how to brew a lager (unless you are trying to clone fosters -WHY????) there are plenty of Lager brewers on here...
I love my English ale but a nice lager has its place too!

That's probably the one. All I know is I had it in 1997 in a pub in Callander, and it was supposedly brewed somewhere not far away from there.

I`ve made a few lagers in the past, not been fantastic but still better than standard run of the mill stuff.

Cool, feeling there is more fans of pale sparkling than just me. I do feel their is a place for Fosters/Carling in the market but not really what I would try to clone and make at home plus with the offers at Tesco's it could be cheaper to buy lol (maybe not). I go to Belgium twice a year for work and sometimes France and their draft lager is fantastic, sometimes I wonder if it would sell well in the UK but I guess not or somebody would be doing it. The main brands I mentioned do a lot of tv adverts so I guess that's what young lads buy when they 1st go in pub at the age of 16/17 lol and then stick with, shame I think standard strong beer like Grimbergen Blonde or Leffe would be nice to see on draft in a uk pub but I haven't ever seen it

There is nothing wrong with most lagers...
Even the mass market very heavily marketed brands like Fosters and Carling have a place... But unfortunately their dominance in the market helds back the proliferatoin of more flavoursome beers...
I certainly wouldnt try to replicate a pale lager like fosters etc as I couldnt get that pale and flavourless... The brewers of these brands go to great lengths to get a 'clean' not too bitter drink ...
I may try a pilsner one day or a Grolsch clone once I think my yeast handling and fermentation temp control will allow it.
Until then I'll make all sorts of beers, Pale ales, Wheatbeers, VMO lagers, porters etc.
