I am just about to commit my first AG brew, but I am baffled by the complexities of water treatment. My local water company (in France) is not very helpful at giving me the details I need, but I have used a couple of aquarium test kits to measure pH and KH. These give me values of pH 7.2 and 54 mg/l CaCO3.
Someone on this forum suggested looking at the composition of a local mineral water. This gives me the following:
Calcium 23 mg/l
Magnesium 14 mg/l
Sodium 31 mg/l
Potassium 4.5 mg/l
Chlorine 36 mg/l
Sulphur 38 mg/l
Is this enough information to use the GW calculator, or do I need total alkalinity too? In any case, based on these numbers, what would you suggest adding doing to brew bitters and stouts?
Advice needed on water treatment for AG
Re: Advice needed on water treatment for AG
I will try for you.
I think for bitters you need to add 4ml of CRS for 25litres and 12 grms of DLS (0.02 per litre in the dry goods ). I think for stout you just need the DLS and a little salt say a tsp. Lots of lads on this forum know a lot more than me maybe they can help you. They are brilliant. cheers
