Recicpe cloning help...

Post by Zephiacus » Tue May 17, 2011 7:12 pm

Has anyone tasted the co-op own brand Gold Miner bottle conditioned ale? I work for co-op and can't get enough of the stuff, it's really good! It is done by the Freeminer brewery. I've not tried to clone a beer before and was looking for help with this one, the bottle says it uses 'first gold' hops, which is a variety I havent got round to using yet. Any help would be appreciated, I am in the process of building my 1st AG brewery, have been doing partial mashing for a bit though, but this is a go at a recipe....

Fermentable Ratio
Golden Promise Pale Malt 3500g 71.4%
Munich Malt 1000g 20.4%
Caramalt 400g 8.2%

Hop Variety
First Gold 8.3 % 60 mins 30g
First Gold 8.3 % 10 mins 20g
First Gold 8.3 % 5 mins 50g

Final Volume: 23 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.050
Final Gravity: 1.012
Alcohol Content: 5% ABV
Bitterness: 39. EBU
Colour: 17 EBC

Yeast, US-05 or WLP001?

Really just guessing here, though i'm sure it'd make a decent beer!

Hi

According to Protz here, you want optic and a "dab" of crystal malts.
