New AG recipe
Re: New AG recipe
Hi!
Looks good there, a nice sessionable Pale bitter/ale
Mind you I am a fan of Bramling X...
Although I've not brewed with it in Combination with First Gold so no idea how that combo will work...
Are you adding the Caramalt for head retention/colour?
Have you tried this recipe or a similar one before, how was it?
Cheers!
Guy

Thanks for the feedback. I am using caramalt as I have never used it before and it's used in one of my favourite beers i.e Punk IPA. Have never used either of these hops before but do know that I like them. You get that spiciness from First Gold and a bit of that with citrus and other fruit notes from the Bramling Cross. I have changed both the recipe a little and the hopping schedule. Maybe a bit daft when your brewing a birthday present beer but it is the thought that counts. No matter what It will be "interesting". I hope that this is not the time to find out that I should be following set recipes for the practice and not to strike out on my own through creating recipes. Well we'll see. I'll post the tweaked recipe.

I am using Danstar Nottingham. I have not been brave enough yet to try any liquid yeasts, involving starters and stepping up. I am still getting my head around that side of things. So far the Danstar Nottingham has been good for me.

Re: New AG recipe
Well folks
As I was unpacking my ingredients I suddenly noticed that I had not actually bought First Gold hops at all but had bought Northdown. Although I had a shopping list of ingredients with First Gold clearly printed and in front of my eyes, I didn't buy them. Perhaps an unconscious slip. I had never brewed with Northdown either. So I just switched the Northdown for the First Gold.
Well I lost a lot to evaporation and the spare wort I had for dilution took my final volume to around 17 litres. I ended up with an OG of 1049 and after fermentation I got the target FG of 1010. It tastes bloody good mind. Racked and will bottle it this weekend.
Is it me or does bottle conditioning take longer than conditioning in the keg/cask?
