Re: Polypin Management
can you attach a hand-pull to any of the Polypins?
Re: Polypin Management
I do and I know Dennis does. Borrowing Jim's method here, I bought a large Coleman coolbox here. They also have a shop on Ebay and a polypin fits snugly inside. Obviously, it's good for conditioning in too if the weather's a bit cold. The main reason I bought it was that it's got a drain in it through which I can pass my beer line which means I don't have to drill a hole, which in turn meant if it didn't work out, I'd have a wider audience to sell my coolbox onto!pdtnc wrote:can you attach a hand-pull to any of the Polypins?
The inlet on my hand pull is 1/2", the hole for the drain plug in the coolbox is 1/2" and the tap on my polypins at it's largest is 1/2", so I just ordered some silicon hose from Hop & Grape.
Beermonsta has posted a very informative guide and photos on how to dispense the beer that's in the cylinder of your pump and flush it through while having your beer line still connected. It works well, though I don't have a demand valve. In addition, I fix the hose to the inlet on the pump and the tap on the polypin with small cable ties and turn the polypin tap off after every session. And rather than a line cooler, I find one frozen cool block on the polypin tap and one or two resting on the hose as it leaves the coolbox means the beer is sufficiently cool when serving.
I'll try to post some photos over the next day or so.
If you've got a lot of cash burning a hole in your pocket, this might be of interest once production resumes.
I'm wondering how easy it might be to add a temperature controller to an electric coolbox.

Re: Polypin Management
thanks for that, where is the best place to buy polypins from?
We have some bag-in-a-box ones at work but they don't have a full Tap on, rather a push-button.

I bought my first one from Hop & Grape and two more from Murphy Brothers which were a cheaper, though I fancy maybe a little thinner, although I didn't have any problems.

To me a polypin and handpump are a great combination if you want your beer "real ale". And it will stay god for a couple of weeks. I buy them from my LHBS about £8 each.

2 weeks from when I start to drink it. Sometimes the last 2 or 3 pints might be a bit flat but I`ve had that with gravity beers in pubs

If I got the bags from work, yes... I spotted them on that site, though thats £7 delivered and I think the Bags probably have a fairly Limited Lifespan.
