Sparkling Turbo?

Post by monk » Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:56 pm

Sorry if this question has been asked before (I've been searching for 20 minutes and can't find any answers):

To carbonate Turbo Cider, would one use more or less sugar than with a standard ale? I've tried two teaspoons in a 1 liter bottle, but it produced very little sparkle. Anybody have a method?

Thanks in advance.

I agree with Daab. I think rehydrating and re-pitching a packet of any dried ale yeast into the batch before bottling should help.

Okay...I wondered about the yeast myself. But one teaspoon per pint sounds about right?

As a fan of online calculators for homebrewing, check this one out for bulk priming.

Linky

You can adjust the volumes so that it will calculate how much sugar you need for individual bottles all the way up to bulk priming an entire brew.

I used a level spoonful(5ml medicine spoon) of granulated sugar in the bottom of each bottle, syphoned the TC into the bottle and left them in a crate by the radiator(with the ambient room temp about 18-19c) for 2 weeks, inverting and turning the bottles gently once a day for 3-4 days to make sure the sugar had desolved!
They have carbonated very well, but i find them to fizzy(next time a week by the radiator should suffice!)
