Belgium Strong Ale

Post by kck74 » Wed Aug 24, 2011 9:37 pm

Hi Chaps,

Got round to doing this at the weekend........

6.7kg of MO
400g of Vienna
1kg of clear candy sugar (liquid)
12g Northern Brewer 90 mins
30g Styrians 20mins
30g Styrians 10mins
5G of black pepper
30g Styrians 5mins
WLP 550

23litres

7.5% (was aiming for higher, but I get scared of getting bugger all wort out of the mashing tun, it has happened before!).
27IBU
11 EBC

It's in the FV now, the air lock is on constant bubble and the trub looks like a beer snowglobe!!! Smells absolutely gorgeous as well

Thanks for the heads up on the yeast, Leedsbrew 8)

Looks about right, I'd want to add a bit (say 500g) of something like vienna malt to add a bit more flavour. I'd also be tempted to use WLP545 rather than 500 unless you are aiming for something more like a triple.

Cheers Rich,

I'm never too sure about what fermentables to chuck in #-o and yeast is (still) a bit of a guessing game!

Will give a report soon.....
