Re: Apa
I'm not a big fan of dry hopping as I dislike that pungent grassy and vege taste, maybe it's down to my process being not up to standard or my lhbs hops may not be that fresh. I just had the 5am saint which I enjoyed the hoppy aroma, altho not specifically in an amber ale. I lAter saw the amount of late hops they used, and the various dry hops and it got me thinking. It didn't taste grassy, altho it was a little messy from some many different hops and wasn't focused.
I'm tempted to try dry hopping with some Nelson sauvin... Any recommended amounts or duration to avoid that grassiness??

Be careful with the Nelsons! They have a very distinctive flavour and in my opinion tend to dominate any brew they go into.weiht wrote:I'm tempted to try dry hopping with some Nelson sauvin... Any recommended amounts or duration to avoid that grassiness??
I notice you mentioned 5am Saint, so I assume you like Brewdogs beers. According to Brewdog's website, a lot of their beers seem to have NS in the hop bill but I don't taste a lot of NS in their beers so I think the NS is used rather judiciously. Having done a couple of kit brews with NS I've decided to give them a miss, just not a fan.
Just my 2c!

Hey paddy, im not really a fan of brewdog for all their big talking, but this is a nicer beer from them. The hop aroma is nice but a little too messy for my liking, and i understood why when I saw the late hops n dry hops added.
I think I cooled too early and shld have given it another 10mins steep to extract somemore bitterness from the late hops. That's why I thought of dry hopping to add some perceived bitterness as well. Maybe some Motueka again for dry hopping as some have report Gd results in the Aussie forums.
