Burco Cygnet 18L Boiler Will not BOIL
Hi everyone this is my first time on the forum looks realy great. My problem is I have just been given the boiler tried my first brew but could not get a rolling boil, temp went to about 90c only. Looked at thermost say's it is rated to 103c. I know it isa small boiler but seems ideal for 10L batches be a shame not to be able to use it. Any help or idea's would be great thanks again great forum

Could be that the thermostat is fooked, i would suggest bypassing the stat by wiring the mains straight to the element.
Most people that make diy boilers wire the element direct.

Do a search on here, people have had to bypass the boiler cutout/stat in order to get a good boil and there should be some threads on it.
Dan!

Bypassing the element is a good method if you are using a boiler for BIAB. Reason being that you don't have to use the thermostat dial if you passively lag the urn when you are mashing. All that's required is an on / off option, either by controlling it from the wall socket or getting a sparky to fit an on / off switch. My 3 year old Australian 40L urn has just died due to the thermo / controller box failing and a mate has bypassed it for me, in fact he's dropping it back this afternoon and I'll be doing a brew later.
Maybe I should wear my insulated wellies the first few times

Hi Andy did as you said and did a search, found one post thought I had sorted it but ho no, they never got it sorted this was back in 2007. Look like I am going to have to follow the advice and completly bypass everything and go straight to the element, will keep you posted. Thanks everyone for your help its great being able to talk these things over with you all Cheers

Mines the same make but 27l. On/ off is at the wall socket which can spark a bit when I switch it on so I use a wooden spoon...
