I have actually given up trying to emulate beers that I like or trying to perfect my own recipe. This is because I use basic gear and the variables are so great that even if I make all the exact measurements the beer is different anyway.

So every time I want to make a bitter I go for:

4kg Maris Otter
250g Crystal Malt
150g Wheat Malt or Toreffied Wheat
Hops to approx 30 IBU ( usually EKG, Challenger or First Gold)
20-30g of aroma hops( as above)
Nottingham or Safale 04 yeast ( I have tried others)

I have made 50+ AG brews and get a decent beer everytime and its always a little different.

Without doubt my number one recipe is Mysterio's SNPA, I have made it four times now and it is just superb, can't get enough 8)

Come on Dunc and smeggedup - why not tell us? You're not selling the stuff after all.

I like:

4kg Maris Otter
500g Crystal
Early hops (90 mins):
  • 30g EKG
  • 20g Fuggles
Late hops (25 mins):
  • 10g EKG
SO-4

Mike.

+1 on Mysterio's SNPA clone. I actually opened a bottle of the genuine article at a BBQ earlier this year. Guests were amazed that my brew tasted virtually ientical. A fewwho said they could taste the difference said they preferred my brew so thanks Mysterio!!
