What To Brew?

Post by Uncle Joshua » Wed Feb 22, 2012 11:16 pm

So far all my 16 AG brews and my next one have all been made with fuggles,Golding, Cascade type hops. I like light hoppy beer at around 3.6 to 4.5%. now I wouldn't mind doing something with a US style hop but still have a not over dark beer at the same sort of ABV.

Anyone got a good recipe?

I would recommend giving Citra or Chinook a try. You could either do a single hop brew with them or mix with Cascade.

Seeing as your abv is 3.9% I would be inclined to lower the bitterness to a max of 40 IBU.
Magnum in for 60 mins to 25 IBU then Citra at 15 mins for 15 IBU and finish off with 30 or 40 grams of Citra at flame out and steep for atleast 30 mins before cooling.

Get Back In Your Cage

Pale Malt 4.25 EBC 3850 grams 92%
Caramalt 30 EBC 330 grams 8%

Magnum Whole 14.5 % 60 mins 15 grams
Citra Whole 13.8 % 15 mins 20 grams
Citra Whole 13.8 % 0 mins 40 grams

Final Volume: 23 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.041
Final Gravity: 1.010
Alcohol Content: 3.9% ABV
Mash Efficiency: 75 %
Bitterness: 39.6191905924026 EBU
Colour: 9 EBC

I modded that to include torrified wheat to help the head, would this work well...

Did something very similar a while ago, my 1st go at dry hopping

Used a full pack of Citra, alpha's were a bit lower than yours though
20g @ 60 mins
20g @ 15 mins
30g @ 5 mins
30g dry 7 days into ferment, left in for 7 days

Very nice it was too, lots of fruit in your face :D

Cheers Tom
