I fancied brewing White Shield from GW's book but wanted a lower ABV. will this work?

Not sure how it would work scaled down. Have brewed the full recipe a few times, it's one of the top few recipes in the book. Just need to treat it with respect.

The best move would probably be to do the original recipe without the sugar; an OG of 1.036 with 10% sugar will be pretty thin, so nix it. Then start dropping the base malt to your desired OG, while keeping the spec malt at the same amount. Fiddle with the hops to try and maintain the Balance Value, and consider the attenuation of your yeast; quickly I would guess at 3.2kg of Pale Malt, 320g of Crystal (23l @ 75% efficiency) 1g per litre of Challenger @ 90min (given your listed AA%) and 1g per litre of Northdown @ 10min (again, given your listed AA%), and don't use an over attenuative yeast (75% tops)

does your brewing software not have he scaling option.

if not download the trial of beersmith and plug the recipe into that. then remove the sugar and see what OG that gives you.

you can then adjust the ABV/OG and it will alter all the malt for you whilst keeping the ratios the same.
you need just then work out how many IBU you want.

I read Dennis' post and thought better of scaling it down.

It will be my next but one brew as is.
