I know brupaks dls is a combination of salts but does anyone know which ones and in what ratios
I wonder if it is possible to add dls as per the table and actually over add one of the salts if your water is already high in this particular salt
I have been using dls but only know my caco3 by testing with salfert kit I do not have a water analysis available for my tap water but have read that bitterness/malt perception can be effected by sulphate/chloride ratio I have been getting a bitterness in my last few brews and wonder if it is because I have started treating my water
or is it not possible due to waters makeup( ie if water is hard the ratios of the anions/cations is fixed)
water experts please

Re: dls composition
Essex and Suffolk water are very helpful. I e-mail them around once a year for an up-dated water report. Take a look at Graham Wheelers treatment calcutator chttp://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/water/water.htmlalculator that will tell you what salts you will need to ask about. Then using the calculator you will find all you need to know.
Re: dls composition
thanks dennis unfortunately it would be a bit difficult to bring my brewing water from my old address to greece every month to brew.
I am thinking og using bottled water as although the water is about 220 caco3 at least I will know the exact makeup of it and can then use the calculator.
I have not been able to find out where to get an analysis of my water done here in corfu except maybe to send a sample to the uk to murphys,
I have found that since treating my water with crs/dls I have has a sort of harshness apear after rhe boil as if something is extracting extra bitterness from the hops and had read about sulphide/chloride ratios and wondered if my water was high in one of the components and by using dls I was actually over compensating for one of the components
