It doesn't say anything about you. We're breaking new ground here!

Yeah, you been/use?
I've been known to frequent the pub when wifey goes to a local nursery. I didn't realise they'd do a deal on grain/hops though - nice work Wez :D

AT I am in the same position as you (well in spain) My nearest HBS that stocks grain is 1500km away. After intesive searching I have found a local micro, that can supply me with grain hops and yeast, its only 45mins drive away and he does a good case(24x500ml) of pale ale for €19. If I need any speciality stuff I can order in or get people to pick them up if they are visiting us.

Saving on the pale malts and base hops is the real saving for those of us not based in the UK

I very much doubt that he could do that even if he wanted too - at least not the grain since Customs and Excise monitor the amount of grain that breweries buy and the amount they use in their brews to make sure it balances out (ie make sure they are not brewing more than they say and selling it at the back door) - they are apparently very sharp about it too and want to know down to the last few kg.

The micro that I have bought grain from had to do me a proper invoice to keep their books straight otherwise they risk a huge investigation.

well whatever way he wants to do it is okay with me. He e-mailed me back and said

Sure Kevin, no problem.

I use pale ale and wheat malt. Fuggles, First Gold, Saaz and cascade hops. This is all I stock but you're welcome to whatever you want from that list. I will charge you cost price.

Feel free to call me to arrange a time to come.

Cheers

So i'm delighted, what a result. So anybody got any idea what i can make from these ingredients? The bits i have to buy through the post will be a lot smaller now. thanks for the idea Wez 8)
