STC-1000 Not running fridge query

Post by Mucknbullets » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:28 pm

Right chaps,
I have finally bought El Cheapo fridge from Gumtree and fitted sensor for STC and my heat pad. Connected all up and although the lights on STC show fridge is in cooling cycle doesn't come on. Ok schoolboy error me thinks that cheapo fridge is fecked. Re-wire fridge straight to mains and runs fine. Gets down to 3.5C on setting 3 out of 4. Wire it back up to STC with live and neutral round the other way just in case (I know it is AC and shouldn't make a blind bit of difference) and still no joy. The little LED display shows that it goes through compressor pause and then goes solid to show it should be cooling.

Any ideas or is the STC knacked?

Many thanks

Ade

Is the 'cool' light flashing ?

Have you left it switched on for longer than 3 mins ?

First I set mine up I thought the same as you, I then re read the instructions and found that it was in 'compressor delay' for 3 mins before it switched on the fridge.

Cool light goes solid after the flashing stage. Reckon it is knacked as been on for over a day now and still reading 22 in the fridge. Bugger, as will have to try and get refund via Ebay from China etc.

Not casting aspersions, but are you sure your stc is wired properly ? You should have Live/Neutral going to (i think) 1+2, then the sensor to the "sensor", then the "heat" and "cool" terminals are for switching the lives only, not live/neutral ( I had to think about this myself   ) - neutrals should all be communal in a single connector block for heat and cool.

Next thing, i'd look at the "compressor delay" as mentioned above. I'd also make sure you've set your fridges thermostat to maximum (as its the stc that decides the temp, not the internal thermo on the fridge any more)

You know what that makes a lot of sense. Me being dumb ass then.

Pinto you are a star. (well hopefully as had 1 too many shandies now to start playing electrics out in the garage) :boff:  :-D

Then again I am pretty good at following instructions (usually) so bugger it out to the garage I go. Report shortly

Nope it was all wired up right. 1+2 power, 3+4 sensor, 5+6 heating and 7+8 cooling.

Back to drawing board and trying my luck with a multimeter I suppose. (never was much cop and fault finding).

Cheers anyway.

Wiring diagram to help:

This one has heating on pins 5 and 6 and cooling on 7 and 8. Check your own instructions as some have these swapped around.

Thats the important diagram

It threw me for a few minutes when I wired mine up - with the exception of the input for the STC itself, it switches lives only. Mind you, if you had it wired up live to neutral on 6-7 and 8-9 then all you'd do is get a dead short circuit when the STC switched on (and it would likly go bang in a major way  )

Wire to the above tho and all should be well :)

Hadn't thought to wire it that way. Coz I is stupid. Thought that power runs through STC which it obviously doesn't. Obvious when seen. I will try again over weekend and report back once I have bought some more choc blocks for connecting.

Thanks Steve and Pinto.

It sounds like you wired it up the exact way I did mine when I got it. Then scratched my head, looked at the manual, asked on the forum, and then realised what id done. I

A big thank you to everyone as all wired up correctly now even went as far as putting it all in a nice plastic enclosure.

I did this too and sat looking all disappointed and puzzled before face palming and reading the net instructions. Can't complain too much though, it was cheap!

Cost would explain clarity of instructions (or lack of). Cheapie lager kit with a saaz hops tea and lager yeast to be going in shortly.

Again thanks to one and all. Life savers.
