does this work out cheaper than buying a new one?

Cost me nothing apart from a little time. This was just a prototype to see if it would work ok. I need to make a few changes but sure I can produce them a lot cheaper than then originals

on the plus side once you have these fitted you only need to replace a 10 pence o ring rather than a £5 poppet assembled unit.

Will let you know once I I have some produced. It will be a few weeks as I need to source the springs as I don't fancy winding them.

Nice work but be aware that there are several different poppet/o-ring designs. I have 7 cornies and between them they have three different types of poppet. One of mine requires a chamfer on that top edge otherwise it won't seal properly.
Hop and Grape list 4 types:

And I seem to recall someone on here having a cornie that required yet another different type!

these are for different brands of keg though. I have Cornelius branded keg and they take a standard poppet

Wow. If that US poppet really does fit all kegs then that is a product worth, um, "testing".
If you can come up with a version at a similar price you'll probably find more than a few willing customers.

I was more than happy to buy these at $29 dollars it seemed a good price. Then I found out that the shipping was $47

And I see a few other members have been hit with import tax I thought better of buying them

Progress Update
The first tuned part worked ok but i did make a few changes to the design

I have had 50 stainless poppets turned and have got the orings fitted, just need to wind the conical springs

I wil perform some trials but if they work out ok will be fitting them to all my corny kegs

What you've made look almost exactly like the '
Generic Cornelius Poppets' that I use in my Cornelius brand kegs:

... so once you get the idea perfected, I don't see why they wouldn't work in most kegs.

Good stuff,
Glad you got it sorted. Hope you can find a suitable stainless spring without having to buy a million.
