Citra hops

Post by Johnnyboy » Sun Jan 06, 2013 11:40 am

Hi,

I have a 100g bag of Citra which I have never got round to using, and was wondering whether anyone could recommend a tried and tested pale 4.0% session recipe that I could brew with, this afternoon when I get back from the children runs?

I have various other hops if required to assist with the bittering side of things if needed?

Thanks,
John

IMHO you cant go far wrong with Deebee`s classic pale ale.

I normally use the basis of the recipe when trying out new hops / single hop beers.

Citra + Amarillo for flavour and Magnum /Target for bittering is a nice combo
Hair of the dog, bacon, butty.
Hops, cider pips & hello.

Name the Movie + song :)

Thanks for the reply Barneey,

I will have a look at brewing that next week as time has run out for me today.

Hi,

I brewed this single hop Citra last summer and I've been enjoying drinking it. Fermented it with US-05. It's a bit stronger than you want so omit the sryup and cut the pale malt down if you want. Its been the only beer that I've brewed more than once so far!

Fermentable Colour lb: oz Grams Ratio
Pale Malt 5 EBC 11 lbs. 0.4 oz 5000 grams 90.9%
Golden Syrup 30 EBC 1 lbs. 1.6 oz 500 grams 9.1%

Hop Variety Type Alpha Time lb: oz grams Ratio
Citra Whole 13.8 % 90 mins 0 lbs. 0.7 oz 20 grams 20%
Citra Whole 13.8 % 20 mins 0 lbs. 0.5 oz 15 grams 15%
Citra Whole 13.8 % 10 mins 0 lbs. 0.7 oz 20 grams 20%
Citra Whole 13.8 % 0 mins 0 lbs. 1.6 oz 45 grams 45%

Final Volume: 30 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.043
Final Gravity: 1.007

Thanks for that JonoT,

I will give that a go with the pale malt scaled back to get around my 4%. I had a Citra beer at a local festival late last year and it stood out as one of the highlights from all the pale beers I tried :D
