Re: US-05 Advice
Well, most US craft brewers who swear by this bugger use advanced whirlpool and/or filtration systems. In your case? Time.robbarwell wrote:Right...got it kegged tonight with a bit of gelatin....6 hours later...nothing, its as cloudy as anything...what does this need to drop it clear
Next time take my advice and use a classic English strain that tastes better and drops like a rock.

Re: US-05 Advice
I've found gelatin very effective with US-05 but it takes days not hours to work it's magic.

Re: US-05 Advice
Good to know...it tastes really good if you can get past the grainy yeasty taste...I will leave it until after the weekend and see what its like then, if still a bit cloudy then I will shove some additional finnings to it
Re: US-05 Advice
I should point out that I did have one with US-05 that Gelatine didn't shift buy I think that was 5th generation. They all clear eventually when bottled after a few months.

Re: US-05 Advice
I had real success by racking to secondary with no gelatine and allowing the beer to settle by itself for around 3-5 days. Then I stirred in the gelatine - idea being that it would get to work on the haze that was reluctant to drop. Beer was gleaming - absolutely crystal clear.I didn't do it with my current APA. Gelatined a week ago and beer has a slight haze. However, this beer suffered a stuck mash so I had to stir the f*ck into the grain bed to get it flowing which obviously added loads of grain matter to the boiler. I then had a stuck run off into the fermenter so had to tip the entire contents of the boiler into the fermenter through a sieve. Massive head of trub throughout the ferment.
I'm surprised it's now this clear to tell you the truth... good old gelatine!

Re: US-05 Advice

Can take up to a week. Mine is actually crystal clear now.robbarwell wrote:Just checked again....muddy puddle...floydmeddler wrote:I had real success by racking to secondary with no gelatine and allowing the beer to settle by itself for around 3-5 days. Re: US-05 Advice
1. Take either 150ml of the beer from fermenter or 150ml cold water and put in a small pan.jampot wrote:Could someone post a link to the gelatine they use a quick "how to" guide.....
2. Add 12g of gelatine. Leave for 10 mins to bloom. (12g is around 4 sheets)
3. Gently heat to 75c, stirring as you go, then switch off heat. Cover with clean tea towel. Don't use pan lid as germ ridden condensation may drip into the solution.
4. Leave for 15 mins to pasteurize
5. Either: Pour into secondary and rack beer on top
OR
slowly stir into secondary (Be careful not to aerate)
I find that if I have a really cloudy beer in primary, I'll rack to secondary without gelatine then stir it in 3-4 days later.

Beer clarity is overrated.

Or alternatively you could use this which is incredibly effective and simplicity itself to use.floydmeddler wrote:1. Take either 150ml of the beer from fermenter or 150ml cold water and put in a small pan.jampot wrote:Could someone post a link to the gelatine they use a quick "how to" guide.....
