Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
Just so i have got this correct you have to unscrew the spear to get it out and there is no clip to remove or put back on like a normal sanke keg
if this is so i would be very interested in the 20 liter versions of these .

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
As far as I know all kegs will have a safety clip on them, the clip being designed to prevent the complete removal from the keg. This is a safety feature to avoid injury if someone is silly enough to unscrew the spear under pressure.
If the kegs are supplied without the spears being actually fitted in place, it would then be upto the purchaser to decide how he wanted to use them.
You could say for instance simply remove the clip / cut the clip off ? or perhaps leave the clip in place and use another method to release the clip everytime you wanted to remove the spear.
Cheers

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
barneey, I see from your photos the 50L keg is 21" tall. Is the 20L keg you have the same height?
I've tried to google for the width and I got 10", would you say that was correct?
Cheers!

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
I havent taken delivery of the new 20ltr ones at the moment so cant be sure.
The sample I`ve seen in the flesh was approx the same size as a normal corney keg so would EXPECT (best guess) of somewhere in the region of 8 to 9" diameter x 25" high.
If size is critical I would email Crusader kegs direct to ask, the 20ltr sizes on their website are for the Euro kegs type so are different.
Cheers

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
Dont forget to ask what the actual height is of the sankey fitting NOT just the overall height of the keg.
The sankey fitting part will be lower than the rim of the keg, then add 4" on for the the coupler.
Cheers

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
Sizes below. The 20L will be tight for me. Might have to wait until you get yours barneey
I also see that the 20L is marked as 'Standard: US'
Does this mean the spear won't be threaded?

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
As far as I know the Sankey spears are threaded by design so there shouldnt be a problem and the thread dims on the drawing ar 2" x 14tp
Height wise if I`m reading the drawing correctly its 590.50mm - 18mm dia rim = 572mm / 25.4 = 22.50 inches + 4 " for the coupler = 26.50" overall height.
Cheers and thanks for the drawing ( a little bit better than my balancing photo attempt) although mine is more visual

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
Going back to spear removal. I've seen mentioned that you can place a 5p coin on top of the spear and insert and engage the coupler and this will retract the safety clip, is this true?

Re: Kegs arrived, 30l
Disclaimer this is my own keg, bought by me + have all the paperwork for the item.
It is assumed that if you are reading this / looking at these pictures that you legitimately own your own keg with the paperwork to back it up.
KEGS under pressure should NOT be TAMPERED WITH SO DONT TAMPER WITH THEM.
To answer a few of your questions a photo is worth a thousand words, this is not a how do, just photos.
Here are a few pics of my keg + a spare spear I have, couldnt remove the spear completly from my keg as there is still beer in it and didnt want to risk contamination.
The safety tabs on spears come in various forms, I know of 3 types two are very easy to remove with the aid of a 5 pence piece, the third is a real bastard to do.
On my keg I had the real bastard one, so have requested for my newly ordered 4 x 20ltrs that they have the spears separate to the kegs.
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING make sure there is no pressure in the keg
I made a simple spanner to unscrew the spear (anticlock) the spear can then be lifted but cannot be lifted out completely due to the safety clip, on the easy kegs insert a 5 pence piece connect the sankey coupler and simply remove the spear. On the real bastard ones you need another fitting (bolt and plate) this attaches to the keg pushes down the inner seal and then you poke around for an hour or so trying to disengage the clip.
The clips can be removed / cut off once the spear is out to save the hassel of doing the above next time (if you wish)
Spanner Tool to unscrew

Coupler with 5p in place

Coupler removed see the pointing out thing? (its the safety)

Special Nut tool PITA to use

Tampering with kegs under pressure can be dangerous.
