Separate Vessel HERMS Build
Separate Vessel HERMS Build
Here's a quick build log of my HERMS vessel. The idea was to go all stainless and have a small volume to allow quick changes in temperature (low latency).
Parts:
Toolzone 12 Litre Stainless Steel Bucket
Lid for Bucket
Stainless Steel Coil
Black enclosure
Heating Element (similar)
Compression Fit Stainless Steel Fittings
First stage was to drill holes in the bottom of the bucket: Measure distance between the connections to give you the centres for the holes
Put the element in to figure out where the holes should go
Mark with a center punch
Drill through the bucket: Go really slowly or the stainless will work harden.
Then place the bucket on the lid of the box and mark the centre of the two holes. Drill as before. Make sure to remove all burrs before you put the element in!
Since the lid isn't flat it's a bit of a pain to cut so I used a q-max cutter. The closest size I had was 1.25" which is a bit too big but allows steam/vapour (if I end up using oil rather than water) to escape.
Now I just need to do the wiring... when the bits arrive!

I`m liking the original idea, don't think many (if at all) have mounted the element box on the bottom , side yes, bottom no?

Can't say I looked for what other people have designed, just went with what I thought would be the most efficient!

Yep I know Aleman did / has done the side wall ones but have never seen a bottom mount one before.

In short not much, I'm a couple of items short on everything! Things are just starting to kick off... HERMS just happened to be the first, control panel next!

Looks great och29. Did you make the coil? Any difficulty bending it? Cheers

Yeah . . . done the bottom mount as well . . While that version was great, the restriction from the thin copper tube was too much so I've gone back to a shorter length of 10mm, in a eBay cheapy stainless Pan . . . I Also have a 6L thermobox for suitable conversion at some time . . . Just need a suitable short , low element to go in the bottombarneey wrote:Yep I know Aleman did / has done the side wall ones but have never seen a bottom mount one before.
