Oddly enough it was in the bar at L'pool airport. Can't recall the brewery, but it was called simply Nelson Sauvin, (without the simply ). Almost worth a drive out to have another.

So,

Up to this point I believed that Nelson Sauvin only worked in blends with other hops. I have tasted quite a few single hop NS beers and have never been a huge fan. In contrast, blended with american/ other NZ hops it does work very well.... Tonight I finally got my hands on a NS single hop beer from Mikkeller. And a fine beer it is too... Personally I find single hop beers to lack the complexity of a good blend but this is a top beer, as good as any other single hop beer I've tasted. Of course, it does have a fantastic complex malt backbone. I'm taking note.

I haven't brewed with it yet, and it's still sat in the freezer waiting its turn. Never enough time Does look like I'd be wasting it a bit if I use it on its own so will probably use it in combination with something else.

I do an all NS recipe.

GRAIN BILL
5kg Pale Malt
0.5kg Munich Malt
0.5kg Torrified Wheat
Mash at 65 degrees C for 90 minutes

HOP BILL
50g NS FWH
50g NS 60 minutes
50g NS 30 minutes
50g NS Flameout and infuse 20 minutes

60 minute boil; Irish Moss at 10 minutes

Two weeks in PFV
Dry hop 100g NS 1 week

That said, I do like NS quite a lot. Never spotted the wine thing, nor the claimed tarmac thing. Having said that, my favourite off the shelf beer is Kipling which is 100% NS!

+1 for Thornbridge Kipling, lovely beer.

I've done a couple of single hop NS IPAs & I think it's a great hop which stands on its own. Also brewed NS with Green Bullet which works well

Clobber, I do a minimum of two weeks in PFV, then rack to secondary and dry hop for a week!

Plus, forgot to mention I use S-04!

ASD, it's for a 23 litre run. Single temperature mash, batch sparge. I would have just exported the recipe from Beersmith but I only use the Mobile variant and it doesn't have the facility!

Just goes to show that it's all a matter of personal taste - I really don't like Kipling.

I recognise that Kipling is a well made beer, and it would be a perfect example to copy if you want to showcase NS flavours, which it does very well, but NS flavours are not my thing at all.

(Jaipur on the other hand...)
