Salifert Kit, no change in colour

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Nice one Dave, so their findings maybe less consistent than I thought.

Seems so, Eric, though to be fair they were having hardware problems that they say have since been resolved. We need to keep an eye on it. To be honest I'm reasonably happy with taking alkalinity measurements and my WA's analysis, though I might send another sample off at some point just for good measure.
Best wishes

Alkalinity can vary a great deal depending on a number of factors.
Heavy rainfall or drought conditions or any circumstance that means a water authority needs to draw water from non-usual sources will give variability.

FWIW, I have sent two samples to the 'other source', one came back with what I considered to be an erroneous result...attributed to aforementioned equipment issues. The second one in very much in line with my water company report and what I test with the Salifert kit.

Well that's annoying to find out that 'they' have been having problems, £15 test potentially wasted and a few months of pulling my hair out trying to work out what was wrong with the mash, luckily my beers turned out OK.

I have to say that, apart from the low alkalinity figure, the rest of the analysis from 'the other source' seemed reasonable and compared well with my WA's figures.

I would be interested in hearing of recent cases.

Got my report: The salifert reading i took before sending off my water for testing was 136. The report shows it at 138, so bang on!
