Cleaned assembled and 1st brew on by 1pm.
Brew finished at 5pm.
Very nice bit of kit.
Smooth operator!! Was this a single infusion mash? I would have thought the BM takes a little longer due to ramping up temp steps?

No, It was quite a long mash and an 80 min boil too.
I used one of the mash schedules in its memory, adjusted a bit to suite me. Im surprised how easy it is to program.
Mashed in at 38c, ramped up to 53c held for 20 mins, ramped up to 63c held for 40 mins, ramped up to 73c held for 15 mins, ramped up to 78c held for 5mins. then sparged a little. and boiled etc
And my efficiency was through the roof.

Out of interest what % efficiency did you get? I have just forked out a small fortune on a 3v set up so wouldn't consider this at present (HERMS being my next step) however I am interested in how it works etc.

84 percent a bit less if the mash contains a high proportion of flakes.

I got 88-89%. I used beer engine to get the %.
I used Crisp malt, only a small test batch.
I had seen quotes of up to 90% with over night mashing etc
I expected around 75-80% as this was an unknown test. But was really surprised how high.
Might have been the recirculation and pos the mash schedule.
Please bare in mind I’m not wasteful, I keep every last drop of wort.
I even keep the boiler dregs. Cleared, frozen, boiled and used when needed for starters or to prime.

Sounds like it is very efficient! Once up and running properly with a few brews under your belt you can then look to cut the grain amounts in line with the efficiency.

Yeah That's why it was a test batch.

Total liquor was 23.9L That was 22l in the mash and 1.9L sparge.
I was trying to see how small a batch was possible.
I started with 20L in the mash, but with only a 3.3Kg grain bill it looked a bit close to not cover the element when recirculating.
So I added 2L of the sparge liquor. I think 21L would have been ok, but just playing safe.

Based on this thread, and a lot of digging round, I have ordered the 20L BM, SS Hood, Chiller and Thermo. Didn't bother with the hop filter as it says not effective with pellets. However, Speidel are struggling to keep up with supply so 10 day wait and leave it any longer its a 3 week wait!

Excellent, rapid email support from Niels BTW.

So now lots of reading to learn how to modify recipes to work with it.

Excellent, you won't be disappointed. It's makes brewday so relaxing. The only problem will be drinking it fast enough so you can brew again. :-)

I think your in for a treat. Its a great bit of kit.

As for modifying the recipes for the BM20, all I'm doing is.
Put my normal recipes in to Beer Engine, then fix the OG and Ebu,
Then change the brew length to what ever i want to brew. Eg 16l, 20L or 23L etc.

glad your pleased with the purchase, that was a quick brew day 4 hours I cant seem to get mine below 5-6 hours.I brewed yesterday having measured out water and crushed grain the night before.
I started a 8 am and finished at 1.30pm having mashed in at 40c,15 minutes @52c,90 minutes@67c and mash out 15 mins '77c
I did an full mash, so no sparge a 90 minute boil and immersion chiller.

it was 23 litres of a 1.035 mild with approx 3.5 kilos grain I got 94% mash efficiency and 82% overall efficiency with tipping the boiler to get all the wort.

I had set beersmith to give 23 litres into the fermenter and had to drain by tipping to get my amount,I need to increase my loss to trub to stop having to tip so much.
I have been playing with the settings in beersmith for a while but still havent nailed them, although I think I am getting closer.
I wish there was a braumiester specific software available.

This is exactly what I'm struggling to get my head around at the moment. Do people keep it simple and use the notched markingings to determine liqour volumes or do as you would normally and fill to whatever volume beersmith says you need for that volume of wort at that OG?
